The EPA Section of Epidemiology and Social Psychiatry is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was Britain’s longest serving monarch, and passed away peacefully on 8 September 2022 at Balmoral Castle.

Her death coincided on the opening day of our 20th Biennial Congress in Cambridge. We have confirmed with the University of Cambridge (owner of our Congress venue) that West Road Concert Hall will remain open, allowing us to continue our Congress as scheduled. We will make an announcement to mark the passing of Her Majesty at the beginning of the day on Friday 9th September in the main Concert Hall , followed by a minute of remembrance.

The United Kingdom will enter a period of national mourning, during which time Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will lie in state. We expect transport network will remain open during this period, minimising any immediate disruption for delegates returning home at the end of our Congress.
