Going green
In planning our 20th Congress as an in-person meeting, we recognise the environmental impact such meetings have on the planet. Our Local Organising Committee have sought to reduce the environmental impact of our Congress in a variety of ways, including:
- All on-site catering at West Road Concert Hall will be vegetarian and vegan, with no meat or fish. Sustainable cutlery & crockery will be used.
- All catering for our Welcome Reception at Darwin College will use plant-based ingredients
- We’ve sourced local or European wines for our Congress dinner, and chosen locally-produced menus where possible.
- We’ve chosen not to provide the traditional “Conference Bag” or weighty printed abstract book to delegates. Instead, delegates will receive a reduced format Printed Programme, with a full online programme and abstract book available on this site.
- We will hold the Congress at West Road Concert Hall, which is naturally ventilated (mechanically) and does not rely on air conditioning or high energy forms of heating
- We are encouraging delegates to get around Cambridge using active travel methods, including walking or bicycling.
- We’ll take delegates down the River Cam on a punt, a low energy form of transport and ultimate way to see the city!
- Wherever possible, we’ll recycle all leftover materials from the Congress including unclaimed posters & programmes.
- We’re reducing food waste by using our conference organisation knowledge to anticipate accurate numbers for catering during the meeting.
